Dave's GMC 6x6 ongoing restoration (Return to Contents page) (Return to Members Vehicles)

June 2009 marks the arrival of the new truck and the start of the restoration process

Picture shows the arrival at the restoration site clearly Daves got a fair bit of work to do to bring it back to full show condition

GMC 6 x 6

This is a GMC 6 x 6 (deuce and a half) 2-1/2 Ton Truck owned by Dave Clough.

During World War II General Motors was a primary supplier of military vehicles to U.S. and Allied governments, contributing much support to the war effort. The most outstanding of those vehicles were the GMC model CCKW350 series, 2-1/2 ton 6x6 trucks (called the “Deuce-and-a-half” by GIs). From 1940 through 1945 GMC built over 528,000 6x6 military trucks, most of which were CCKW350s.

Some work looks to have been started here.

First questions asked of any new restoration has to be 'what have I done?, how long is this going to take me to complete?, how much is it going to cost? Well with these things it's always worth taking the long term view and keeping a vision of how the finished project will be. Commitment, deep pockets and an understanding better half allways helps.

Seems like a lot of work to undertake so we will be tracking Dave's progress and providing an ongoing record of his work.
