RAF Leeming & Catterick Families Days (return to Diary Page)

The return to RAF Leeming this year was organised by Julie & Steve Pickard and supported by DTV & NEMVC members and their vehicles. A good display area was created and apart from a very short rainy spell the weather was perfect for flying. The Battle of Britain Flight put in an appearance along with the Vulcan and a good selection of fighter planes demonstrating low flying and aerobatics around the airfield to the delight of the assembled public. There was a good selection other activities available and good weather ensured a good day for all.

Around 4.30 pm a few of us made our way to meet John at Somme Bks. at Catterick and to meet up with colleagues from the Manchester MVT where we were due to support the First Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment at their family day on the Sunday. The Regiment provided us with accommodation for the Saturday evening though we did decide to take a trip to Richmond for an evening meal which I have to say was excellent. I gained a new son during the evening and he a new wife!! (you had to be there for this one), a great night out. On Saturday the sports field was rapidly converted into a show area with lots of attractions for the families; this was preceded by a filmed presentation prepared for the families and sent by their soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan, all in all another great day (many thanks John for looking after us) a brilliant weekend.
